Kildorrery vs Argideen Rangers – Intermediate Football League Opener

Kildorrery opened their Intermediate Football League campaign with a hard-earned one‑point victory over Argideen Rangers on a well‑prepared pitch that drew praise from both sets of supporters. There was a strong sense of anticipation around the grounds as this marked our first league outing under the newly appointed management and selectors, with several fresh faces making their competitive debuts.

Kildorrery settled quickly and controlled large spells of the first half. Our movement, work rate, and pressure on the ball set the tone early, and we were rewarded with a flurry of scores.

We went into the break leading 3–1 to 0–3, thanks to three well‑taken goals:

  • Tadgh Murphy struck first with a composed finish.
  • Anthony Crowley added a second after a flowing team move.
  • Timmy O’Sullivan hit the third, capitalising on a turnover to bury the ball to the net.

With momentum firmly on our side, it looked as though Kildorrery were on track for a comfortable second half.

Second Half – Argideen Fight Back.

The restart, however, brought a very different contest. Argideen Rangers came out rejuvenated, dominating possession and putting our defence under sustained pressure. Their persistence paid off when they found the net in the 40th minute, cutting significantly into our lead.

Both sides traded points as the half wore on, but Argideen kept pushing and were eventually awarded a penalty, which they converted.
That narrowed the gap to the bare minimum, turning the final minutes into a tense, backs‑to‑the‑wall effort from Kildorrery.

Despite the pressure, our lads showed character and resilience, holding on to secure the win by a single point in what truly was a game of two halves. The final score was Kildorrery Three goals and Three to two goals and five points.

Looking Ahead

While the result was positive, everyone within the camp recognises that this is only the first match of a long campaign. There is plenty to build on—and just as much to improve—but the early signs under the new management team are encouraging.

It was also great to see new faces stepping onto the pitch, contributing strongly and bringing fresh energy to the squad. Their involvement, combined with the experience of our established players, gives real optimism for the season ahead.
